Influental franchises on Singular Matter
In this Devlog I would like to talk about Inspirations and influences behind Singular matter. The most obvious is history and clash of two seemingly contradictory science theories, but there is a lot more to that.
I get the impression that most of the people can be turned off from the game because in its firm scientific background. However, as Arthur C. Clarke said, advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. So I hope if fans of fantasy can accept magic potions, spells and necromancy so we are in the same boat.
First and most important Singular Matter influence is the bibliography of Philip K Dick. Because of the duality of the description of the world and the extremely strange events taking place in the institute, the question arises whether there are no cracks in space-time through which you can see what is beyond the protagonist’s perception of “objective reality”. In addition, there is a severe identity crisis.
Secondary influence is Silent Hill series, where game doesn’t rely on jump scares rather than creating an atmosphere of dread and creepiness by music and covered subjects.
Another one is Lovecraft. There is a sensation of something terrible approaching, but this thing doesn’t have an earthy origin and thus causes gruesome fear.
And last but not least is legendary twin peaks where under cover of normality there is the other side of evil beings lurking behind normal plane of events.
